Ashesi University College is a
liberal-arts college and, just like most universities, it has a goal to impart

introduced to effective and sustainable problem-solving, especially in an
ethical manner, while still having a positive impact on the community around
them.

Furthermore, all students are required to
partake in community service as a prerequisite to graduating. From this, they
learn that true leadership is not just about barking orders and telling people
what to do, but about helping your society and being able to serve (Lankarani,
2011).

The university teaches four mandatory
courses of Leadership in successive stages, starting from Leadership I and
ending at Leadership IV. This is to empower students with necessary
professional, ethical, civic leadership and teamwork skills. In addition, the
school begins training students on how to be ethical and responsible, even in
the absence of others. This was especially demonstrated when the students
themselves enacted an honor code. According to the university’s website section
on the Honour Code – Ashesi University College (n.d.), the students pledge to
be ethical within the Ashesi community and during examinations in which there
is no invigilator present.
