Child S’s communication, language, and literacy I will be planning the next
steps which involves me doing an activity to help support his areas for
development. According to the EYFS I will ensure that child S is given a wide
range of access to story books, poem, and other written materials that
interests them to read. I will plan one to one sessions where I teach phonics,
so child S can develop an understanding on how to recognise letters and how to
sound out words. According to Friedrich Froebel I could also do singing songs
and rhyme session that will help support the child’s communication and language
skills.

Looking at
the overall progress of child S’s communication, language, and literacy I feel
that his progress so far is going well but there are certain areas for
development that the child needs to work on. In terms of the child’s oral
communication he can interact and respond very well but at the same time he
makes grammatical mistakes in his speech. In terms of the child’s interaction
with books I believe that he can show interest when it comes to reading his
favourite book. Child S can understand what is happening in the book through
visuals and he can recognise pictures on the book. Child S fails to say words
without images but he recognises certain alphabetical letters. In terms of the
child’s mark making skills I believe that he is confident in using different
resources to create his drawings, but his writing needs more support. I
believe that environment plays a key role in supporting and extending
children’s learning, play and development. An environment needs to be safe for
children to feel comfortable where it meets their needs. It is important that when I am
planning the child’s next steps I should be providing children enough materials
and resources for them to use.
